We Believe all Dogs Deserve a Chance at a Grateful Life

As we spend our extra time volunteering at the Effingham Co. Animal Control Shelter walking and socializing dogs, we develop Bonds and Trust with the K9s we interact with over time. Many of the dogs turn into completely different personalities just by crossing the street and taking a short 20min walk. Shelter life is a high stress environment, there is no way around it. That being said, living in a Shelter, sadly, is one of the best things that has happened to many of our Furends at the Shelter, as ECAC provides excellent care for all the animals that live there. Shelters are not meant to be a long term solution and all the dogs up there long for a home and structured companionship.

The next step is adoption for these dogs. Transitioning from a Shelter to a Home is not always easy and usually takes two months before an animal settles in. Grateful Dog Walks has decided to offer Special Rates for the first Two months for dogs, we have a relationship with, when adopted from ECAC. It is our hope that this will help with the Transition from Shelter to Home to be as smooth as possible for our Furends!

Gypsy

Gypsy is a sweet girl who loves to find a good spot of clean grass to roll around in. She is very sweet and listens well. She knows sit and stay. We are working on her leash manners and she is making progress. Sometimes I think she pulls on the leash because she is looking for her owner. As she has been in and out the shelter most of her life through no fault of her own. This little girl will grunt all the way into your heart if you’d just give her a chance.

Here is what ECAC has to say: “She had been living on the streets, in vehicles and motels for the past year. Even though her life hasn't been stable she still greets us here with a smile. She is a 7-8 year old American Bully mix. She loves toys and will do anything for a treat.
She needs a home where she can be the queen of the castle with no other animals.

Her adoption fee is $100 which includes her first set of shots, rabies, microchip and spay.”

Loki

My Experience with Loki has been Great. He was timid at first but warmed up very quickly once he realized I was just there to be his buddy. Easy to walk, has great manners on the leash and is very Chill. Checks in frequently by making eye contact. knows sit and stay, we are working on shake. He really just wants to please.

Here is what ECAC has to say about Loki: “This sweet boy came to us after being left in a local hotel where he was under weight and needed a little TLC. Despite all that he has been through he is the sweetest boy with lots of love to give. Loki is about 5 years old and loves people. He greets us everyday with that cute pittie smile and is crazy about his treats. He is house trained and keeps his kennel here at ECAC clean. Loki loves all the attention on him so he does need to be the only pet in the home.

His adoption fee is $130. He will come current on his age appropriate vaccinations, microchipped and neutered.”

Tucker

Tucker is one of my main walking buddies. He absolutely loves walks! Tucker is very smart. Makes good eye contact, understands basic sit and stay. He responds very well to leash commands. Overall Tucker is eager to please. On the shelter property he is very excitable but just walking a block away he calms down quite a bit. With a regular routine and training, which I think he will take to quickly outside of the shelter environment, I have no doubt tucker will make a great companion. Tucker is the perfect dog for those who want a hiking buddy that is also very affectionate.

Here is what ECAC has to say about Tucker: “Tucker is an adorable, friendly, and affectionate adult dog. He is very playful and loves to be active - he is quite the athlete! He loves walks and looks forward to his daily walks with our dog walker here at the shelter. He also loves the outdoors and would be the perfect adventure buddy. He previously lived in a home with other dogs but a meet and greet with potential dog siblings is a must. He doesn't seem to mind cats. He also needs a home with NO children.”

His adoption fee is $130. He will come current on his age appropriate vaccinations, microchipped and neutered.”

Icee

When I first met Icee he was very timid and calm. Every day he shows more personality and even gets excited when he sees me now. With more personality comes more confidence and in time I believe that confidence will make him highly trainable. Icee is a very strong dog despite how skinny he is. That being said, He has very good leash manners naturally. Once it is established that he is on a leash and I am controlling it he resets himself. (If I stop and he reaches the end of the leash he will walk back to me on his own) We are working on sit but he knows what stay means and I have never met a dog that doesn’t sit yet but is this good on a leash. In a loving home with consistent training Icy will be a wonderful companion!

Here is what ECAC has to say about Icee: “This black beauty is looking for a furever home.
Icee is a 2-3 year old staffie mix. He was found at a truck stop here in town and was never claimed. He is a big love bug and loves to be near people. He was not sure what to think when taking pictures today and had some pretty funny faces to share.
Icee does not seem to mind the cats here at the shelter, but we are unsure of how he does with dogs so a meet and greet with potential dog siblings is a must. We recommend a home with older children for him as he does tend to jump when excited.”

His adoption fee is $130. He will come current on his age appropriate vaccinations, microchipped and neutered.”

Zephyr

Zephyr is a very chill and affectionate dog. My experience with him has been very casual paced walks with many stops to smell spots and find clean grass to roll in. Especially fresh cut grass, he loves to roll around. he also loves to eat tall grass and other plants. He does well on a leash, knows sit and stay, but he is usually not in a hurry to get anywhere. Zephyr loves when I sit with him at a spot he chooses to lay down at and becomes very affectionate and playful. I suspect he would be a great couch cuddle buddy. As you will see below, dogs behaviour inside the shelter vs outside can be very different, shelter life causes Zephyr a lot of anxiety.

Here is what ECAC has to say about Zephyr: “Zephyr is a rambunctious young pup waiting for the perfect home. We absolutely love his crazy coat pattern and he has the personality to match. Zephyr is struggling here at the shelter and is very stressed in his kennel.
Zephyr would love to go to an active home where he can have lots of exercise. We believe he would do okay with other dogs, but a meet and greet is required with potential dog siblings. He did not seem to mind the cats here in the office. We believe older children would be best for him as he is full of energy.
If interested in adopting this sweet boy please fill out our adoption application.”

His adoption fee is $130. He will come current on his age appropriate vaccinations, microchipped and neutered.”

Nyx

Nyx is a joy to spend time with! She is great on a leash, knows basic commands, and checks in with eye contact. She already has such a great base of training. Its sad she is now in a shelter environment. Nyx is a great dog that could learn any expectation set for her. She’s very sweet and affectionate and always down for an adventure!!

Here is what ECAC has to say about Nyx: “Nyx is back at the shelter and is so sad.
Nyx was originally adopted from ECAC back in 2020. She is a shepherd mix around 6 years old.
She is a very loyal girl who would love to be your snuggle buddy. She knows basic commands like sit, shake, stay, wait and easy. She gets along with most other dogs, but a meet and greet with potential dog siblings is a must. We are unsure how she does with cats at this time.
Due to a new baby in the home Nyx was not taking the adjustment well so we recommend a home with no children or older children.”
If interested in adopting this sweet boy please fill out our adoption application.”

His adoption fee is $130. He will come current on his age appropriate vaccinations, microchipped and neutered.”

Trapper

This little peanut is the happiest little doofus. Trapper has a ton of energy despite his heartworm diagnosis that he is currently being treated for. Since testing positive for heartworm we don’t get to spend as much time together due to the treatment requiring him to take it easy. When we do get to go on short walks together he makes the most of it and is always grateful. Trapper is very affectionate and would love to meet you. His little tail goes 100 mph when he is around humans!!

Here is what ECAC has to say about Trapper: “Unfortunately Trapper recently tested positive for heartworms at the vet. We are now looking for a furever home or rescue that can pull him so that he can continue heartworm treatment in a comfy home instead of the shelter.

Those words are some we hear more often than not in the rescue world. We are completely full, but our hearts couldn't bear to say no to this sweet face. Who knows what might of happened after he walked back out that door with him.
Trapper came to us after he was bought for hunting and just wasn't doing his job. So he loaded him up in his truck, and he had to go. When asked if he vetted him or had any information.. his answer was a simple no. Trapper is in good hands now and will be fully vetted before going to his furever home.

Trapper is believed to be a 2-3 year old Patterdale Terrier mix. He is a sweet boy that is loving the attention here at the shelter. He needs a home with no cats. We are unsure at this time how he does with other dogs, so a meet and greet with potential dog siblings is a must. He would do well in a home with older children.”

His adoption fee is $130. He will come current on his age appropriate vaccinations, microchipped and neutered.”
